Juventus have agreed a deal with AC Milan to sign Paul Pogbs from Manchester United.
The Italian champions will pay around €60 million, according to the Telegraph.
The 23-year-old is expected to sign a contract that will take him to the Juventus academy and make him the most expensive Italian player.
Pogba will join from Manchester City and will join the Serie A side for a fee believed to be around €70 million.
The transfer could be made official before the end of the week, with the Italian clubs representatives expected to meet on Wednesday.
The move is a surprise for many because it came on the same day as Pogba’s father, Romario, died.
It is the first time in four years that Pogba has played for AC Milan, which he joined in 2012 for around €35 million.
He has been with the club since 2012 and was the first player to leave during the winter transfer window.
He has scored 20 goals in 46 appearances for AC, who currently sit in fifth place in Serie A. “I’m delighted that Juventus have made a fantastic deal for Paul,” AC Milan president Massimo Moratti said.
“He has the potential to become a great player and I’m sure he will have a great future in the game.
It’s important to me that this deal gets done. “
I’ve known Paul since I was in charge of the national team, and I know he’s a player I’ll keep a close eye on.
It’s important to me that this deal gets done.
We want to get a great young player who will be a major star for the future.
With his quality, his experience and his potential, he is the perfect combination to become one of the best players in the world.
I’m looking forward to seeing him in Italy.
He will be an important part of our team.”
POGBA’S FIRST TRANSACTION AS AC MILAN’S MAN OF THE MATCH article Juve will pay Manchester United around €80 million in transfer fees and will take Pogbs on a six-year contract, with an option for a further four years.
Pogba joins AC Milan for around £25 million and will move into the Juventus camp.
On Wednesday, AC Milan said they were close to finalising a deal for the defender, who has played at the Camp Nou for nine years.
“We have an agreement with Juventus and I can confirm that the player has signed a contract with AC,” AC spokesman Alessandro De Sisti told reporters.
There was no comment from Manchester Utd or AC Milan.
‘INTERNATIONAL DETAILS’ SAY JUCOON’S FUTURE IS UP IN THE AIR The deal has been widely reported as an indication that Pogbs will be leaving AC Milan and is also an indication of Juventus’ intentions.
In a bid to strengthen their defensive line, Juventus have already signed Andrea Ranocchia, Alessandro Diamanti, Andrea Parolo, Daniele De Rossi and Andrea Castelli.
United have already said that the transfer will be the “biggest signing of the summer” but that will not happen until the end to the summer transfer window in July.
While the arrival of Pogbs has been welcomed by Juventus, the arrival by Manchester United of Pogba and other top European footballers has been met with outrage.
Despite Pogba agreeing to sign for Juventus, United have rejected the terms of the deal.
A source close to the situation told the Telegraph: “They don’t have any financial resources to pay Pogbs, and they don’t want to pay him anything.
But Pogba is happy with Juventus, as he has told them he wants to leave the club.
For a player of his calibre, he’s going to cost Manchester United hundreds of millions.”
Juventus are likely to use the transfer as an opportunity to restock their squad and add to their ranks, but it will also be an opportunity for the rest of Europe to find a new identity.
If Juventus are successful in their pursuit of Pogb, it could see the transfer of Antonio Conte’s former centre-half Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus to AC Milan become more likely.
